Actor Vishal slams Rajendra Prasad over remarks on MGR
A fresh controversy has erupted in the South Indian film industry after actor Vishal strongly condemned senior Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad for his remarks about legendary Tamil Nadu actor and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR.
Vishal called the statement “shocking and repelling” and urged the veteran actor to address the issue responsibly and offer an apology.
The controversy began after Rajendra Prasad spoke at the Kalaprapoorna Kantha Rao National Award event held in Hyderabad earlier this week.
During his speech, the senior actor praised Telugu acting legend Kantha Rao but made a controversial comparison with MGR.
According to reports from the event, Rajendra Prasad claimed that MGR was intimidated by Kantha Rao’s folk films and said that the Tamil icon would “wet his pants” whenever he saw or heard about Kantha Rao.
The remark quickly also went viral on social media and sparked strong comments from fans and actors of the Tamil film industry.
Many also criticized the tone of the statement, saying it was disrespectful toward one of Tamil cinema’s most revered figures.
Reacting to the controversy, Vishal took to social media platform X to express his disappointment over the remarks. In his post, he wrote that it was “shocking and repelling to see and hear the recent comments” made by Rajendra Prasad about the late legendary actor MGR. Vishal said he felt compelled to speak up because MGR is remembered not only as a celebrated actor but also as a respected leader in Tamil Nadu.
Addressing Rajendra Prasad directly in the statement, Vishal wrote that praising another legendary actor like Kantha Rao is a “lovely gesture,” but bringing down another icon in the process is inappropriate. He stressed that MGR continues to be deeply respected and remembered by millions of people, and such remarks do not go down well with the sentiments of fans and members of the industry.
Vishal also urged the senior actor to resolve the matter in a responsible way. In his message, he said that it was important for Rajendra Prasad to bring an end to the controversy and tender an apology for the comments. He added that he would expect the same response if anyone spoke disrespectfully about a senior actor of Rajendra Prasad’s stature.
Following the remarks, many social media users criticised Rajendra and asked Rajendra Prasad to apologise publicly. MGR;s fans have expressed anger over the statement and say that the legacy of the late actor deserves respect.
