Active cases on steady downward trend in Tamil Nadu

Another 2,522 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, pushing the overall tally to 7,14,235. In the last 24 hours, 69,344 persons were tested in the State.

After 4,029 discharges in the past 24 hours, the number of active cases came down to 27,734. After testing 69,344 people for the viral infection, the eleven northern districts together reported 51% fresh cases and 40% deaths on Tuesday.

The zone also had the highest number of active patients – 13,720. After north, fresh cases were highest in the eight western districts (732) followed by the south zone (247). New cases in the central districts were the lowest at 236.

Chennai’s daily case count dipped further to 695, while Coimbatore recorded 209 cases. While 146 persons tested positive in Salem, there were 144 fresh cases in Chengalpattu. Tiruvallur reported 115 cases, while Tiruppur and Kancheepuram had 99 and 98 cases respectively. Among the other districts, five reported less than 10 cases each; the least being two cases in Dindigul.

As many as 4,029 persons were discharged from hospitals across the State. With this, 6,75,518 persons have been discharged so far, and 27,734 persons are undergoing treatment.

Chennai accounted for 1,97,077 COVID-19 infections of the state’s over 7.14 lakh cases, besides accounting for 3,607 deaths of the total 10,983 toll.

Testing of samples stood at 70,687 today, totalling to 96,60,430 getting examined till date.
