Aabavanan gets 5 year jail in cheating case

Famous film producer Aabavanan was today sentenced to 5 years’ imprisonment and fined Rs 2.40 crore in a check bounce case.

In 1999 the Punjab National Bank had filed a case against Aabavanan and the Manager and Assistant Manager of a particular branch of misappropriation of cheque collection.

The case went on for the past seventeen years and the CBI Special Court has on Tuesday given the verdict that all three were guilty.

XI Additional CBI Court judge Venkatasamy convicted filmmaker Abavanan, Chief Manager Rajagopalan, and an Assistant Manager Ramanujam, both employees of Punjab National Bank, Cathedral Road branch here, for various offences under IPC including criminal conspiracy.

Aabavanan is an Indian film director, sceenwriter and producer who has worked in Tamil films. Since the early 1980s, he worked in Tamil films.

He spent most of his career screenwriting, lyrics writing, music composing and producing movies with different themes. He is first person in Tamil cinema, who introduced live-recording system.
