70th National Film Awards: Nithya Menen, Mani Ratnam open up about the big honours

The long-awaited 70th National Award Films event was held at New Delhi.

The prestigious event, which is held to honour the finest talents from the various film industries of Indian cinema, was attended by the winners and a few invited guests.

Nithya Menen, who won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance, and Mani Ratnam, the director of Ponniyin Selvan I which bagged the award for Best Tamil Film, were spotted arriving at the National Film Awards event in style.

The Thriuchitrambalam actress, who won the prestigious honour for her stellar performance as Shobana in the Mithran K Jawahar film, opened up about winning the National Film Award in a recent chat with ANI.

“It feels wonderful, it is absolutely special. It is a very very important moment in our lives as artists… I think, it is one validation moment,” stated an elated Nithya.

Mani Ratnam arrived at the 70th National Film Awards event to receive the Best Tamil Film award for his 2022-released film Ponniyin Selvan 1.

Mani Ratnam, who had a brief chat with ANI at the venue, expressed his excitement on winning the prestigious honour for the project. “Ponniyin Selvan is a huge classic which is written in Tamil and its been very popular and most-loved Tamil literature to exist. I was very happy to be able to make it into a film..,” stated the director.

For the uninitiated, Ponniyin Selvan I won four prestigious trophies, at the 70th National Film Awards. The Mani Ratnam directorial bagged the award for Best Tamil Film of 2022. AR Rahman won his seventh National Film Award for the film, in the Best Music (Background Score) category. Ravi Varman won the Best Cinematographer award, while Anand Krishnamoorthi bagged the honour for Best Sound Design.
