66th glass break incident at Chennai airport

A glass door was broken at the Chennai airport today. This is the 66th incident. According to sources, no one was injured during the incident at the domestic terminal this morning.

Meanwhile, an Air India flight was delayed after it developed a technical snag. The plane with more than 100 passengers was bound for New Delhi.

Only a few days ago, a glass door (of dimension 7X4) at the departure area of the international terminal at the Chennai airport broke injuring a CISF personnel in the process.

The incident was the 65th incident of a glass-break at the airport. Meanwhile, new glass panels have been kept on the side of the international terminal and sources said that officials have been replacing vulnerable glass panels with new ones.

Two days after a 65th incident of glass panel collapse was reported at the Chennai International Airport on Monday, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) dismissed them as ‘normal’ and cases of ‘media hype’.

Responding to a complaint sent to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the rising incidents of glass panel collapse at the government-run airport, in-charge chairman of the AAI S Raheja has said the spontaneous breakage of glass panel is because of nickel sulphate inclusion, which is a normal phenomena and very much within the industrial norms.
