Ahead of the counting of votes polled in Lok Sabha elections and by-polls to 22 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu, the entire state has been brought under a security blanket.
Around 5,000 policemen will be deployed in the city at counting centers and at crucial places to avert any untoward incidents and a 80,000-strong police force will be on duty across the State.
As many as 306 officials are involved in the counting process in the city and a three-tier security is laid out here. Along with the city police, Armed Reserve, members of CRPF and Swift Action Force (SAF) and Intelligence Section police are also posted for duty.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several union ministers, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are among key leaders who contested the polls.
Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo today said 88 observers will be monitoring the counting in the State. Addressing mediapersons today at the Secretariat, he said 19 company paramilitary forces will be deployed for security.
