4 killed as truck overturns after hitting two-wheeler near Dharmapuri

Four men died when a truck overturned after hitting a two-wheeler and the median on the Bengaluru-Salem National Highway at Thoppur in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu this morning.

The deceased have been identified as truck driver J Selvam, 30, of Sangiliandapuram in Trichy district, cleaner K Thangaraj, 55, of Vazhapadi in Salem district, two-wheeler rider K Chinnavan, 55, of Purikkal in Dharmapuri district and pillion rider M Ariya Goundar, 53, of Purikkal.

Recently, a 14-year-old Dalit boy was made to clean up his faeces from a field, after he was spotted defecating behind the bushes on the fringes of a patta land here in a village in Penngaram near Dharmapuri

A case has been registered against the perpetrator based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father. The boy from Kodarampatty village was made to clear the refuse with his hands.

Taking suo motu cognisance of an incident in which a dalit boy was forced to clean his faeces with his own hands in Dharmapuri, the Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has sought a report from the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police within four weeks.

The 14-year-old Dalit boy, a native of Kodarampatty village, was forced to clean up his faeces from a field, after he was spotted defecating behind bushes on the fringes of a patta land, at a village in Pennagaram on July 15.

The boy was spotted by the land owner, Rajashekhar, who pulled him up and forced him to clear the faeces with his hands.
