33rd Convocation of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute: Union Minister L. Murugan Graces the Occasion

The 33rd convocation ceremony of Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute, Chennai, was held on August 17 at the ACS Hospital Complex, Velappan Chavadi. The event, presided over by Chancellor Dr. A.C. Shanmugam, celebrated the academic achievements of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, attended as the chief guest, delivering the convocation address and presenting degrees to over 4,000 students.

During the ceremony, honorary doctorates were conferred upon acclaimed film director Mr. P. Vasu, actor “Action King” Arjun, and eminent DRDL scientist Dr. G.A. Srinivasa Murthy, recognizing their significant contributions to their respective fields.

In his address, Dr. Murugan emphasized the transformative power of education in shaping the future of the nation and congratulated the graduating students for their dedication and perseverance. He also presented medals to the top-performing students across various disciplines.

The university, established 38 years ago, has been a cornerstone of academic excellence in fields such as engineering, technology, medicine, dentistry, nursing, arts, and sciences. Its dedication to nurturing young talent and fostering innovation was lauded by all speakers at the event.

Prominent attendees included Chairman Er. A.C.S. Arun Kumar, Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Geethalakshmi, and other distinguished officials such as Dr. G. Gopalakrishnan, Dr. D. Viswanathan, Dr. C.B. Phalaneivelu, and senior retired IAS officers. The event was also graced by faculty members, staff, and a jubilant gathering of students and their families.

The ceremony concluded with a note of pride and inspiration, marking it as a milestone in the university’s illustrious history.
