27 resolutions adopted in key DMK general council meet

The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Sunday held its general council meeting in Chennai, adopting 27 key resolutions, including those on the Hindi language row, Waqf law and allocation of funds, ahead of next year’s state Assembly polls.

The meeting was held at Kalaignar Thida (Kalaignar’s Square), a park dedicated to the party’s founder and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

It adopted 27 resolutions, most of which attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government over a host of issues and praising the DMK’s tenure in the state under MK Stalin.

Some of the resolutions passed by the DMK in the meeting were about Hindi language row, New Waqf law, fund allocation,  caste-census and Tamil Nadu Delimitation.

Other resolutions adopted also included promoting the Dravidian model of governance in the country and supporting Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, saying he earned people’s overwhelming trust and has become a hope of Tamil Nadu’s future. This is a clear indication that he is poised to step into his father, MK Stalin’s shoes, as the Chief Minister.

Later, MK Stalin held a 22-km-long roadshow amid huge cheers from the crowd, with hundreds coming forward to join it. He also met his elder brother MK Alagiri at his residence, burying the hatchet between them that troubled their relationship since 2014.
