25 corona cases reported in medical college in Chengalpattu

As many as 25 cases of Covid were reported at Sathya Sai Medical College in Chengalpattu until Thursday. About 7 people have tested positive on Tuesday, after which saturated testing has been conducted. Health secretary J Radhakrishnan inspected the hostel along with Chengalpattu Collector on Friday.

On May 3, seven samples were tested at the college hostel and the test results turned positive. Later, at least 32 samples taken on Thursday, of which 18 tested positive for COVID. So far, 25 cases reported at the college hostel, where 10 students from Sathya Sai boys hostel, 8 from girls hospital and seven positive cases from CDS apartment.

Health secretary said, “Conditions of all patients are mild, stable and testing of remaining persons being done and cluster control protocols in place with full cooperation from the college.”

Last month, over 7,000 samples were tested at IIT Madras, and at least 200 students turned Covid positive. The State Health Department announced that no new variant has been detected in the IIT cluster. In the initial stage, as many as 25 samples were sent for whole genomic sequencing revealed BA2 Omicron subvariant. In March, at least 93 percent of the total case results identified the BA2 Omicron subvariant.As many as 25 cases of Covid were reported at Sathya Sai Medical College in Chengalpattu until Thursday.
