Over 10 killed as bus rams lorry in Krishnagiri

More than ten people were believed to be killed and around 33 sustained injuries in a road accident in Krishnagiri district on Sunday.

The Hosur-bound private bus left Krishnagiri around 1.15 p.m. carrying nearly 40 passengers. It was crossing Chinnar along the highway when a container lorry from Hosur took a U-turn near Sundagiri.

The bus crashed into the lorry killing four people on the spot. Two persons died at the Krishnagiri Government Hospital and one died at the Hosur Government Hospital.

“The lorry heading towards Krishnagri collided with the bus when the lorry was coming out of a median opening of the highway,” Rohini Priyadarshini, Assistant Sub Inspector of police told the media.

Animal husbandry minister Balakrishna Reddy, district collector Kathiravan and other higher officials too rushed to the spot and supervised rescue operations.

Even as the ambulances were on full throttle on their way to the Government Hospital on Gandhi Road in Krishnagiri, the road was partially blocked by a stage for a consumer awareness event.
