CPI alleges anarchy in Orissa, wants Patnaik govt to quit

New Delhi, Aug 28 Having condemned the killing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxamanand Saraswati and his disciples and the ensuing retaliatory violence in Orissa, the CPI today upped the ante for the BJD-BJP government by holding it ''wholly responsible for anarchy and jungle raj'' in the state.

Alleging its collusion in the spread of anarchy, the party demanded immediate resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

In a statement here, the CPI sought deployment of paramilitary and army units in violence-hit areas of Kandhmal and Bargarh districts.

Describing the situation as ''very grim'', the Communist party alleged that violence had claimed more than 30 lives, including that of a Hindu woman working as a cook in an orphanage, but at the same time added that the Home Secretary was not able to confirm the number.

The party alleged that armed gangs of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal were indulging in arson and loot, demolishing churches, vandalising schools and orphanages run by Christian missions and burning alive members of the minority community.
